We are experts in the production, processing, analysis, and interpretation of geoscientific data in relation to the hydrosphere, in particular in oceanography and hydrology, and in the numerical modeling and the assimilation of these data into Earth system models.

A global database for hydrological data

Ocean Next participates in the construction of a global database for hydrological data from satellite data, building on preliminary versions already developed by several French research institutes.

Ocean numerical simulations at very high resolution

Ocean Next performs numerical ocean simulations at very high horizontal and vertical resolutions to realistically simulate the ocean circulation at regional and basin scales.

Ensemble ocean simulations

Ocean Next develops ensemble and probabilistic approaches for numerical ocean modeling in order to  take into account ocean model uncertainties and relate this information to how we can interpret satellite and in-situ ocean data.

Data science
for Oceanography

Ocean Next explores and applies some tools from Data Science (Machine Learning) in the context of ocean data assimilation, and spatial and operational oceanography.

Data assimilation

Ocean Next develops various methodological approaches (Ensemble, Kalman filtering, AI, …) for the assimilation of Earth observation data, from satellite or in-situ, into ocean and hydrological models.

REMOTE SENSING

Ocean Next builds  an expertise to analyze, interpret and use remote sensing data, especially from altimetry satellites, and prepares the use of data from future satellite missions (SWOT, SKIM…).

Ocean Next has a special interest in  developing models, investigating data and preparing their assimilation, in the Arctic ocean.
